What is eCounseling?
In a nutshell, eCounseling is online therapy - a way to connect with your therapist through a secure high definition video similar to Skype. eCounseling brings therapy to you in the comfort of your home or office via smartphone, tablet, Mac or PC.
How do I know if eCounseling is right for me?
eCounseling has been shown to be effective in treating a wide range of issues including depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, eating disorders, phobias, and stress-related issues. However, it may not be appropriate for everyone. People who have suicidal or violent tendencies, people with severe drug or alcohol addiction, and people with a severe mental illness such as schizophrenia may find in-person counseling more beneficial.
eCounseling is particularly suitable for people with busy schedules, those who live in rural areas, have transportation challenges, are in-home caretakers, or those who simply prefer the convenience. Your therapist will work with you individually to help determine if eCounseling is right for you.
How does eCounseling work?
eCounseling at Samaritan Counseling Center is simple and easy to use. When it’s time for your appointment, you will receive a link via text or email. Click the link and enter your name and a password to access your therapist’s online waiting room. Your therapist will then begin the session.
Is eCounseling effective?
eCounseling has been shown to be just as effective as in-person counseling to address certain issues, and some studies show that it may be even more effective.
How do I get started with eCounseling?
The first step is to call 903-593-9141 to set up an appointment to talk to our Client Services Team. We will guide you through the intake process, most of which can be done over the phone and online. There's no software to download. If you have a smartphone, tablet, or laptop with a webcam, you can get started today.
Research shows that eCounseling is most beneficial when people have had at least one in-person visit with their therapist before their first eCounseling session. We recommend that all new clients meet with a therapist in person at one of our five locations in East Texas for at least one in-person session before beginning eCounseling.
We want your eCounseling experience to be as smooth as possible, so once your first appointment is scheduled, we will set up a short tech-check session with you in order to test the video connection, familiarize you with the video platform, and smooth out any technological hiccups that might arise. There is no charge for a tech-check session.
How much does eCounseling cost?
As with in-person counseling, fees range from $35.00 to $120.00 depending on your insurance provider. If you do not have insurance, we offer a sliding fee scale based on household income to help make eCounseling as affordable as possible.
Can I use my insurance to cover the cost of eCounseling?
It depends on your insurer. Check your Explanation of Benefits from your insurance provider to see if eCounseling is a covered benefit.
Is eCounseling secure?
Yes. We use a secure video conferencing platform that uses state-of-the-art security and 128-bit end to end encryption protocols to ensure your privacy. None of your information is recorded or stored. We adhere to HIPAA and HITECH requirements for protecting your privacy.
